  • Update on the CPSIA Fight

After searching and reading more, and more…. I have made a few changes to my previous post below. PLEASE REREAD IT. (Thanks to Kathleen at Fashion-Inclubator. She has been a great resource to help clarify rumors and spearhead a strong campaign.) Learn more at her site or this great site below:

I have been twittering and stressing how this will put any small manufacturer out of business but I was wrong, big businesses are at risk too. They are more visible, their customers are more informed and they impact our economy greatly. We need to change gears a little and understand that this will affect every company that makes products for a child. Yes, you’ll have the few crooked companies that didn’t care about regulations before try to slip by, but most manufactures, big and small, do comply with safety regulations and care about safety. We do care about our kids! That is not the issue.

A comment left on the National Bankruptcy Day website by Maura (stated in a letter she sent to her legislators) says it well:

“The CPSIA needs to be modified before it goes into effect. It needs to be analyzed, its true costs measured, and its flaws remedied. I only hope you can help preserve the spirit of this legislation, while making it a realistic and useful part of our economic system.”

Meetings in Washington keep getting canceled and I think that they are feeling a little heat, but not enough to really see the light and get things changed. We are running out of time. Soon the legislators will go on vacation and won’t be back until mid January.

Please help spread the word and educate. Send people to this site. Don’t panic…..do something.

Here is an automated method of emailing all of your legislators.

When you’re up against powerful monsters like ConsumersUnion.org, who want all lead removed regardless of whether or not its a feasible risk, the uphill battle gets a lot steeper. These consumer groups ironically with this legislation guaranty that the ONLY products we see in the marketplace are cheap and tainted crap from China. If they wanted quality goods, why didn’t they support the professional handcrafting industry instead, and CHANGE the marketplace? Because they want cheap crappy goods, they just want ‘em safe as well. Well – good luck with that!

I’ll carry on with the fight all the way to doomsday if I have to.
