What the Heck is Twitter?

If you’re wondering “What the heck is Twitter” or if you haven’t even heard about it, it’s that latest social networking time sponge. But, a time sponge that has some real significant and valuable benefits to your blog, business or just yourself. I have to admit that I’ve become a true believer/addict.
My great friend Seth Jenks (@sethjenks) wrote a wonderful blog post today explaining what Twitter is, how to do it and what all the little #, @, D’s mean.
He wrote:
“When I bring up Twitter people ask me, “So is it like Facebook?” I tell them it’s kind of like blogging and texting mixed together. That seems to be the best and simplest explanation. Twitter is really just a glorified status update, but the power of Twitter is direct access to people to whom you would never have access otherwise.”
Here is the complete article…totally worth the read. Twitter in a nut shell.
At first I got sucked in….my husband was really starting to resent how much time/attention I was giving my computer. Once I started using a program called Tweetdeck to manage my tweets, I’ve been able to manage my time better.
The most important thing about Twitter that I was told by Twitter Guru Gwen Bell (@gwenbell) is that “it’s like a river. You can step in and step out”. You can join in when ever you want. I have also made some amazing contacts through Twitter that I would never have been able to make before. The advice on being a better mom, on running my business or website better and even the latest breaking news is shared on Twitter. You pick people to follow and hopefully people follow you back.
Don’t be intimidated…don’t feel like you have to share some earth shattering statement. Just be yourself and share what you do best. If we all share, we can all make each other stronger.
One more tool to help us build a stronger world.

Great post, Jenny! And I’m heading over to read Seth’s right now. I think you’re right, what you say at the end, about, “don’t feel like you have to share some earth shattering statement. Just be yourself and share what you do best.” The biggest barrier to entry is censoring yourself. If you just say what’s on your mind, and listen to what others have on their minds, you’ve made it!

How much money does twitter actually make? Can it make any money in the future?
